Neptune Festival, Crawlin’ Crab Marathon, and More Events Cancelled in Hampton Roads This Weekend


The remnants of Hurricane Ian are set to move up the East Coast to end the week. Expect rain, wind, and tidal flooding throughout the weekend.

Many organizations have canceled scheduled events due to the impact of Tropical Storm Ian.  Get a list of canceled and rescheduled events below.

  • J&A Racing in partnership with the City of Hampton and the State of Virginia announced the Crab Half Marathon and 5K is canceled.

  • The 48th Annual Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend activities planned for September 30 – October 2, 2022, have been canceled. However, the International Sandsculpting Championship tent will open to the public from Monday, October 3rd through at least October 9th. Neptune’s Final Toast: Celebrating our Hometown Heroes event featuring 4x Super Bowl Champion, Rocky Bleier, scheduled for Sunday, October 2nd will take place at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

  • The City of Newport News has canceled the 47th annual Fall Festival. The event was scheduled to take place on October 1 and 2 in Newport News Park. City officials say the festival will not be rescheduled.

  • Festevent’s 33rd Annual Virginia Children’s Festival presented by Optima Health scheduled for Saturday, October 1, 2022, has been canceled due to forecasted local weather impacts from Hurricane Ian. All ticket holders will be automatically refunded in 7-10 business days.

  • Langley Speedway announced the 3rd Annual Shawn Balluzzo Memorial 100 has been moved to October 29th. All tickets purchased for this weekend will be honored on the new date

  • The Old Dominion vs. Liberty football game scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. remains unchanged, however, Kaufman Mall festivities will be moved inside The Webb Center. The athletics department will provide another game update at noon tomorrow. Please continue to monitor ODUSports.com for all updated game information.

  • The Military Aviation Museum has canceled Tanks and Tracks, Oct 1st & 2nd, 2022, due to the potential effects of Hurricane Ian. All event tickets will be fully refunded. The museum will remain open this coming weekend.

  • Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin closed at 1:30p Friday and will re-open on a regular schedule Monday.
