Norfolk Naval Shipyard Delivers U.S. Flags to Local Funeral Home in Honor of Flag Day

The Norfolk Naval Shipyard delivered 137 U.S. flags to a local funeral home to honor fallen veterans this Flag Day.

The tradition began six years ago when Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Veteran Employee Readiness Group partnered with Sturtevant Funeral Home to create the “Retire Your Flag Program.”

Citizens are invited to bring flags no longer worthy of display to Sturtevant Funeral Home.  The flags are draped over fallen veterans at the time of cremation to honor their service and commitment to our nation.

According to a Facebook post, the team collected 137 U.S. flags this year, which were presented to Sturtevant during a ceremony held on June 13.
