Norfolk Native Bob Saget Reminisced on Growing Up in Tidewater in Video Shared Prior to His Death


Bob Saget, the actor-comedian best known for his role as Danny Tanner on “Full House” and as the host of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” has died at the age of 65.

Saget was reportedly found dead in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando on Sunday afternoon after a performance in Jacksonville, Fla.

The comedian shared a photo following his final show saying, “I had no idea I did a 2 hr set tonight. I’m happily addicted again to this s***.”

Born in Philadelphia, Saget lived in Norfolk, Virginia for over a decade.  He attended Larrymore Elementary, Azalea Gardens Middle School and Lake Taylor High.

In a video shared by Oceanfront9, Saget talks about his time growing up in the Larrymore Lawns neighborhood in the Ocean View area saying, “Tidewater Virginia is one of the coolest places on earth.”

“I loved growing up there,” he added. “It’s a good place to raise your family.”

Saget also talked about the areas he liked to visit including Ocean View Pier. “I used to go to Virginia Beach a lot, used to go to Newport News, you know, it’s a good town — the news capital of the world,” the comedian joked.
